Creativity

One of the most varied ways that creativity intertwines with music, is through media. One type of song is called a mashup, which takes two songs and combines the beats from both songs, as well as the vocals. Mash-ups take a lot of creativity and work due to the need of two songs on the same key. Sasha Frere-Jones article "1 + 1 + 1 = 1 The new math of mashups" talks about Jeremy Brown,  who got ideas from a songby Beck. "Using digital software, Brown isolated instrumental elements of “Debra,” a song by Beck from his 1999 album “Midnite Vultures.”" He then searched for a vocal to go along with it Sasha Frere-Jones. The two songs are not close in style—“Debra” is a tongue-in-cheek take on seventies soul music, while “Frontin’ ” is hard and shimmering computer music—but the vocalists are doing something similar." New media fostered Brown's creativity in collaborating two songs from completely different genres. This is only one way new media fosters creativity and there are many other ways it does.
